Kevin opens up the show with a recap of Maryland’s first round win over Belmont. Thom called in and so did Cooley. Cooley talked about reports of the Redskins trading up, Jay Gruden’s off-season influence, and then he broke down why the Skins’ offense struggled in 2018. Kevin closed with 7 more NCAA Tournament Smell Test picks.

Very disappointing last second loss to LSU due largely to the team’s horrible start in the 1st half. Came out the same way far too often this year and in other years under Turgeon. Surprising that the one returning upperclassman starter (Cowan) turned out to be (probably) the key factor in the demise of the team down the stretch of the season and postseason play. About 10 -12 games ago Cowan totally simply lost his shooting touch and confidence. Killed us down the stretch, in the BIG Ten Tournament, and was a key factor in the closeness of the win over Belmont and in the loss to LSU. Turgeon must find more players who can consistently hit the 3 (like Heurter). Can’t win big time without them. Almost all of the good mid-majors have 2 or 3 of them; but we rarely have any. Cowan clearly isn’t a consistent 3-point shooter anymore, And what happened to Bruno down the stretch? (Thinking about the NBA draft too much?). Missed so many layups and close in shots. Started to look like Lindo who simply can’t finish at the basket at all. Disappointing year overall despite the youth. Turgeon had good talent but once again had a team that rarely played a complete game, often came out ice cold, couldn’t win big games vs Michigan State, Michigan, played horribly in the BIG Ten tournament, and gave away a chance to make the Sweet 16 in DC by playing so horribly in the 1st half. Looking like Turgeon’s teams will rarely make the top 4 in the conference. His program simply not among the elite programs in the conference. Ugh!
