WHAT’S THE FRIDAY FOOTBALL SMELL TEST?
It’s a contrarian handicapping philosophy. I look for the games where the public is convinced they are right about a point spread and I go the other way. There’s more to it than that including unique access to information about where certain sharp action is but for the most part, it’s the realization over many years that the house wins more than it loses and the house advantage comes from more than just the built-in vig/fee advantage.
The lines used are from covers.com as they appeared Friday during the show. Lines change. Typically, if a line is worse for me than it was on Friday, the contrarian handicapper in me regards that as a good thing. It usually means late sharp money is with me.

Kevin and Thom discuss the possibility that the status quo will prevail for the Redskins of 2019. Both agree that would be near-death for the team so it led to a conversation about the possibility of drafting Kyler Murray in the April draft. Scott Van Pelt was in for his weekly visit to the show. They discussed Maryland Basketball, Jalen Hurts to Maryland, and the NFL Playoffs. Thom made his NFL Playoff picks too.
Kevin opens the show talking about Maryland’s big win over Minnesota last night. He also talks about the notion that the DC sports media is too hard on the Redskins. Chris Knoche joins the show to talk Terps and Kansas City sports radio host Steven Spector comes on to talk about Andy Reid and the Chiefs as they get ready for their playoff game Saturday against the Colts.
Kevin and Thom discuss the Clemson title win over Alabama last night. A ton of Redskins talk on the show includes an appearance by Liz Clarke/Washington Post with an update on the Skins’ stadium situation.
