Smell Test for Weekend 11-3

WHAT’S THE FRIDAY FOOTBALL SMELL TEST? 

It’s a contrarian handicapping philosophy. I look for the games where the public is convinced they are right about a point spread and I go the other way.  There’s more to it than that including unique access to information about where certain sharp action is but for the most part, it’s the realization over many years that the house wins more than it loses and the house advantage comes from much more than just the built-in vig/fee advantage.

The lines used are from covers.com as they appeared Friday during the show.  Lines change.  Typically, if a line is worse for me than it was on Friday, the contrarian handicapper in me regards that as a good thing.  It usually means late sharp money is with me.

Redskins Keys To Going 6-2 Plus Scott Van Pelt

Kevin gives his keys to a Redskins’ win over the Falcons on Sunday. Chris Cooley comes on to talk about the trade, grade out Alex Smith and the rest of the offense, and a lot on the Redskins’ defense. Scott Jackson calls in to talk about the Wizards’ dreadful 1-6 start to the season. Kevin finishes up with Coaching Blunders, Kirk Cousins stats and the rest of the trades in the NFL.

Redskins just won their third straight, and Kevin once again praises Doug Williams for bringing in Adrian Peterson. He goes through his game takes, including thoughts on another great performance by the defense and what he thought of Alex Smith’s outing. JP Finlay joins the show after his day in New York to give his thoughts on the Redskins win. Kevin then highlights some quotes after the game that he particularly liked. He goes Around the NFL, featuring the Saints win over the Vikings, the Rams win over the Packers, and the Eagles win in London. He wraps up the show with Weekend DVR where he looks at the Red Sox winning the World Series and Dave Roberts decision-making over the weekend, the Wizards loss to the Clippers, Maryland’s win and the rest of the college football slate, and his thoughts on what Scott Boras said about Bryce Harper.
